A newborn baby may be prone to many different types of infections and while it is normal for an infant to develop some sort of infection, sometimes these illnesses can manifest into something more severe. Although an infection in a baby is not always the fault of someone else, it is possible for doctors and other medical personnel to be neglectful and cause a baby to contract a potentially fatal infection. Contact an attorney if you feel your infant's viral illness is due to a doctor's neglect.

Different examples of infections that can provide problems for a newborn include:

  • Viral Infections
  • Maternal Infections
  • Bacterial Infections

One common way that an infant gets sick is through a maternal infection. This is when the mother is infected with something that is passed along to the baby. Many times, a doctor mishandled the situation and did not properly treat the infection and it was passed onto the infant. Other times, a medical professional simply fails to diagnose the infection which can then turn out to be harmful to the baby. If a doctor failed to diagnose a viral illness and it was contracted by your infant, contact an attorney.

Hospital acquired infections are very common amongst patients and other individuals that are patients or visitors at a hospital. This also includes newborn babies. Since hospitals are filled with patients that have all sorts of different bacterial and viral infections, it can be easy for a newborn baby to get sick if the medical staff does not take proper precautions to prevent this from happening. If your baby contracted a serious or fatal infection in the hospital, contact a lawyer today.
